Most people who give up on standing blame the desk. It was the floor.

Standing at a desk for two hours on tile, laminate or concrete is a fundamentally different experience to standing on something with give. Hard floors put the entire load into your heels, travel it up through your knees, and deposit it in your lower back. It builds slowly enough that most people never trace it back to the floor — they simply stop raising the desk.

This mat sits between you and that. The core is rubberised gel foam rather than plain polyurethane, which matters in year three: PU compresses permanently and flattens into a rug, while gel foam keeps its rebound and keeps working.

The cushioning does two things at once. It absorbs impact, and it makes standing perfectly still slightly unstable — so you shift your weight constantly without thinking about it. Those micro-movements are the actual mechanism behind standing feeling better than sitting.
